(Listen to Dawn Mitschele here)
Dawn Mitschele is at the top of a new generation of talented musicians thriving in the Southern California acoustic music scene. Her angelic voice and honest lyrics grab and retain the listener’s attention. In January 2009, she was named by San Diego Magazine as one of 50 to Watch in the new year. Her first EP was praised by San Diego Troubadour writer Tim Mudd who described the record as “about as perfect a first step as a recording artist can give.”
(Listen to Drew Phillips here)
Drew Phillips is a Detroit native who recently relocated to Los Angeles to further his career in music. He currently plays guitar with local indie rock band Eulogies, with whom he has logged multiple US tours, and most recently traveled to Australia after the band charted on Australia’s influential Triple J radio. Outside of Eulogies, Drew continues to write folk songs driven by finger-picked acoustic guitar, catchy vocal melodies, and straightforward, sincere lyrics. His influences include flamenco (from his studies in Spain) and years of experience playing rock and folk across the country. Think Nick Drake or Neil Young for the twenty-first century.
What is Desert Nights?
Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood. Every Wednesday, we curate 3 musical acts on the rise to perform a special acoustic set in our hotel lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. Also, expect 2 clever cover songs delivered by each performer. The sets begins at 7:30 pm in the Cactus Lounge (thus the title of the evening, Desert Nights).
