Greatest Hits from July

It’s the first day of August and us New Yorkers are secretly savoring our short 3 months of Summer before the snowy days begin. We did however remember July very fondly, so here’s our top 5 favorite posts as we enter our last month of Summer.

This year, 4th of July was a doozie with parties at all of our hotels in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Here is a view from our Hollywood hotel with good ‘ol trusty Abe Lincoln serving up patriotic shots to our pool guests. Notice the awesome flag color coordination organized on the tray!

One of Standard Hotels collaborators (and guest bloggers) Cheryl Dunn was featured on a radio show at KCRW in Los Angeles. If you didn’t read it the first time, give it a listen now and enjoy Cheryl’s song picks and cool accompanying stories.

40 free songs? Every month, The Standard compiles 4 playlists of 10 songs each to represent each one of our properties. July’s freebie batch of MP3’s are not to be missed.

Ok. We had to single out the infamous day that Ghostface showed up at The Standard New York for a magazine shoot… with a falcon, no less.

Another one of The Standard’s collaborators, Casey Neistat, created a little video about riding in the bike lanes in New York. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and take a peek. And don’t tell us we didn’t warn ya, when you ride our bikes.

And now back to our regular programming. Welcome August!

Cinefamily’s 2nd Annual Everything Is Festival

It’s 4th of July weekend. By all means, go find a body of water somewhere (Pool Side at The Standard, Hollywood perhaps?), throw something delicious on the BBQ, grab a beer, and work on that sunburn.  All we’re saying is that maybe you should consider taking a few breaks this weekend. You know, get yourself in some air conditioning, something sweet to munch on, and maybe see a few good movies.  We don’t mean the latest blockbuster, come on, that’s not our style.  Nope, we have a much much better suggestion.  This weekend, those wacky cinematic geniuses at Everything Is Terrible have partnered up with one of our besties, The Cinefamily, to bring you The 2nd Annual Everything Is Festival!

We Gots Lots of 4th of July Plans

Get ready folks! We are entering another weekend of visual wonder with 4th of July weekend festivities. What better way for a group bond then getting together and looking up into the sky with a lot of communal “ooohs” and “aaaaahs”.

The Standard has a few shindigs going on at our various hotels in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Our locations are perfect with “money shot” views to behold all the magic.

Here’s a little rundown…

The Standard, New York

Once again, Le Bain will be hosting its memorable 4th of July party, one of the most coveted rooftops to enjoy the fireworks. The party starts at 3pm and runs through 2am with a load of dancing, cocktails, and fireworks simultaneously sparkling the sky.  Also, don’t forget your swimsuit - you might just want to dip in our hot tub during your firework viewing. Oh, and if you do forget, you know to get your pair in our poolside vending machines.

Another little note to all our friends — be mindful that we have one 1 stunning roof and New York City is very big, so we recommend coming early, getting your drink on, and picking a sexy corner early to watch the fireworks.

The Standard, Miami

On Sunday, there’s Lazy Sunday BBQ with $6 Picanha, Caipirinha, Beer and Drinks. The festivities begin from 2pm - 8pm.

Hall & Oates Fireworks Spectacular

In honor of Hall & Oates headlining this year’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl next Saturday we thought we share the classic video of the Hall & Oates’ song She’s Gone.  It’s one of those videos that makes you want to play the game: “What drug were they on when they thought this was a great idea?”.   Seriously, John Oates deconstructed tuxedo and the bizarre devil costume make this one beyond hysterical. Enjoy!
