Hark. Another week of brilliant acoustic music awaits you at The Standard Hollywood. This Wednesday, here’s the line up of three bands looking to entertain you.
American Bloomers is the union of three singer/songwriters: Jaime Wyatt, Jane Sheldon and Jonathan Sheldon. Their voices blend seamlessly over jangling acoustic guitars and Stonesy electric riffs. The music is crafted in the fashion of Lennon/McCartney, with songs that echo of love, heartbreak and heart-wake. Read more at Pickysticks.com.
(Listen to Brandi Emma at MySpace)
Brandi Emma is a Silverlake, CA-based singer/songwriter/musician who gained considerable critical buzz under the moniker Emma Burgess after Rolling Stone magazine named her song Big Break-from her first release, Swim- “Break-Out Indie Song of 2001”. After a few musical collaborations, and a return to her birth name, she presents her latest self-released project, the EP Photographic Memory: a heady blend of folk-rock and alt-country all with a strong pop edge. The album marks the beginning of this 29 year-ode’s formidable songwriting and vocal power, or, as Absolute Punk put it, “…In just a 20 short minutes, Emma has already said and done more than many of her contemporaries. Much like discovering Jewel’s Pieces of You, Photographic Memory points to a glimmering future for this young upstart and is the surefire sign of a rare and true talent. Major labels, take notice.” She recently played SXSW in the Hotel Café showcase.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Jack Littman is a young troubadour with an old soul. Able to spin convincing tails of longing, regret, deceit, rejection, and vindication, his life experiences appear to come from a longer trail than he could seemingly have traversed in his 22 years. In the past year, Littman has toured as support with Atlantic recording artist Robert Francis up the West Coast and headlined his own tour through the Southwest, culminating in a packed show at this year’s South By Southwest music conference. Littman’s most recent release of original material, ironically entitled The Mixtape, has been getting rave reviews from all corners of the Internet. “Littman’s vocals don’t seem to match his youthful face, but then again, the haunting grooves of “Sinking Ships” don’t exactly fit with their birthplace of Los Angeles. With an offbeat blend of thumping rhythms, soulful lyrics, and distorted horns, Littman creates an immediately ear catching sound that I am loving more and more with every listen.” - Brandon Zev - The Burning Ear
