The Standard: First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at the Standard?

Alexander: I’m from the beautiful Caribbean coastal city of Santa Marta in Colombia. Fluent in 4 languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian). I have an Associate degree in Tourism and Hotel management but Worked as a TEFL certified Language teacher for 7 years in various cities in my home country and abroad, this before starting in the hospitality industry. At The Standard Spa, I’m “the man with many hats”, I go from giving guests a warm welcoming, to assisting them with their luggage, then hopping in behind the Front Desk doing a Check-In, next minute I’m giving someone directions on how to get to the hottest spots in South Beach… all for a single main purpose — Ensuring my guests would have the BEST experience in a hotel ever!

What’s your favorite secret spot in Miami?

If I’d tell you I would have to kill you … Not really! Well, is not that much of a secret. I find this spot in South Pointe park very beautiful, calm and serene. That’s where I go to meditate and/or simply enjoy the magnificent view

iPhone or Blackberry? What APP do you use the most? 

ANDROID!!! I love my Evo! But to answer the question I would tend more towards the iPhone (shhhh…Don’t let my Evo hear that!).

Latest App would be a Barcode scanner… Last time I was in the Mall I scanned everything that had barcodes. Couldn’t help it!…People were giving me these looks.

What’s one of your most memorable moments in the building? 

I was helping a lady with her bags upon check-out, she was being picked up by her husband and their 5 year old son and as I finished loading her belongings into the car’s trunk, the 5 year-old son pulls his head out to thank me stretching his arm to a hand shake and saying….. “Thank you mister bellman for helping my mom, God bless you, God bless you mister bellman for taking care of my mom”… Memorable!

"Just Go With It" …. Those little kids were hilarious!

How has 2011 treated you so far?

It’s been a great year so far, tho it started with some personal challenges which led to a greater self esteem and believing that one is capable of overcoming any situation if you believe in yourself and have faith.

When you finally break free from work, what is the next awesome place you plan to vacation to?

Tayrona National Park in Santa Marta, Colombia …. Great place, beautiful beaches, snow peak mountains in the background, crystal clear rivers …. absolutely amazing!

Outside of StndAIR I’m a writer and actor, creating and performing work for theaters in downtown NYC. At The Standard I’m a red plane’s mother ☺

What’s your favorite secret spot in NYC?

Valentino Park in Red Hook. Best view of the Statue of Liberty in Brooklyn, idyllic fishing, ACTUAL quiet, and the authentic aroma of key lime pie.

iPhone or Blackberry? What APP do you use the most?

I have both! For personal use, though, nothing beats iPhone - Open Table for last minute dinner reservations and the Shakespeare App for instant wit.

What’s one of your most memorable moments in the building?

From the 18th floor I saw a 40 gallon plastic bag from Home Depot waft magically by the window. It was like that sequel to American Beauty where they tried desperately to up the ante.

Costa Rica. There’s a hotel in the jungle made from the renovated fuselage of an abandoned 747.

What’s your full name? David Daniele Vialli

What’s your sign? Taurus

Tell us a bit about your childhood? Was born and raised in Seattle but spent all holidays in Italy with my parents’ families.  I moved to Portland when I was 12 and also went to college there.

What made you get into hotels? Worked on wall street for a bit out of college and really wanted to find something that was more about what I could do for people vs. what I could get from them.

What’s your dream vacation? Spring in Southern Italy….beach, sun, negronis, and amazing food.

If you could open a new Standard anywhere, where would it be and why? Naples……so I could always be on vacation.

Name six items you couldn’t live without: soccer ball, road bike, risotto pot, 10” chefs knife, vintage suede Chelsea boots,  iPhone.

What’s your death row meal? My grandmothers fish risotto.

The Standard: First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at the Standard?

Zach Book: I’m an actor from Baltimore MD. I’ve worked on Feature Films and TV shows from coast to coast. I’m the night audit relief at The Standard, Hollywood on Friday and Saturday nights. In other words, when the wildest place in town is having its busiest night I’m center stage…just where I like to be.

What’s your favorite secret spot in Los Angeles?

About .1 miles east down Sunset blvd. Inside of a little pink shack with a white awning they serve the best burritos and tacos on my way to the gym. Some call this place Pinches Tacos.

iPhone or Blackberry? What APP do you use the most?

iPhone all the way. I worked at Apple for 3 years…might be biased. Strangely, I find myself looking at the horoscope app more than any other app recently. I’ve never looked too deeply into readings as a foretelling, but looking for different perspectives is definitely interesting.

What’s one of your most memorable moments in the building?

Eating breakfast in the Diner after doing a scene auditioning for the Actors Studio next door, and then finding out that I was accepted into the studio while working in the back the following day.

Filmmaking. I’ve been writing and directing since I was 8. I’m in my element when I’m in front of the camera or steering the ship behind it.

The Shining…hands down. The first movie I did an “at-home-movie-date” with. I was terrified and she wasn’t…did not work out as planned.

Your top pool memory at The Standard this Summer?

Taking my 10 minute break around 6:00 AM while the sun was rising on a Sunday morning. The air was cool, the sun was starting to beam, and LA was clear in the distance. Great way to start the day, and end my night at the same time.

When you finally break free from work, what is the next awesome place you plan to vacation to?

My sister is flying from Baltimore and we are driving up to San Francisco, then to Vegas to celebrate her 21st birthday. There is no one else I’d rather travel with.

Marina: I’m originally from Moscow, grew up in Brooklyn, lived in Miami for several years and moved back to NYC 2 years ago to attend NYU. I’m studying Film there and holding it down at The Shop here at The Standard.

What’s your favorite secret spot in NYC?

That’s an impossible question to answer but, I do love sitting in Washington Square Park and people watching.

Blackberry, and I don’t use any apps…I check my email, does that count??
