Meet Daniel Riordan Wood of StndAIR
Full Name: Daniel Riordan Wood
Exact Title: Air Concierge for StndAIR
Sun Sign: Virgo

First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at The Standard?
Outside of StndAIR I’m a writer and actor, creating and performing work for theaters in downtown NYC. At The Standard I’m a red plane’s mother ☺
What’s your favorite secret spot in NYC?
Valentino Park in Red Hook. Best view of the Statue of Liberty in Brooklyn, idyllic fishing, ACTUAL quiet, and the authentic aroma of key lime pie.
iPhone or Blackberry? What APP do you use the most?
I have both! For personal use, though, nothing beats iPhone - Open Table for last minute dinner reservations and the Shakespeare App for instant wit.
What’s one of your most memorable moments in the building?
From the 18th floor I saw a 40 gallon plastic bag from Home Depot waft magically by the window. It was like that sequel to American Beauty where they tried desperately to up the ante.
I spend most of my time thinking about ____________?
Brisket.
What was the last song you downloaded?
“Sun is on My Side” by Gogol Bordello.
What is your favorite movie based in a hotel?
Can I say The Shining? Eek.
How has 2011 treated you so far?
I’ve been very pleasantly surprised.
When you finally break free from work, what is the next awesome place you plan to vacation to?
Costa Rica. There’s a hotel in the jungle made from the renovated fuselage of an abandoned 747.
Lissy Trullie stripped down at Le Bain
This Wednesday the downtown ‘it’ girl, Lissy Trullie, will be gracing us with a special stripped down performance on the rooftop at Le Bain. This is a summer Wednesday night performance that you do not want to miss!

The event starts at 9 PM, arrive early and enjoy the free performance and some free Havaianas. Stay late and dance to the sounds of Jaime Biden, Alexandra Richards along with our weekly record player, Paul Sevigny. Expect to hear rock n roll music in every shape and form possible.
Meet Robert Escalera
Meet Robert. He’s devilishly handsome, charming beyond compare, dresses like he’s vacationing at an exclusive resort, and keeps the Pool Deck at The Standard, Hollywood brimming with fun. He’s also got a heart of gold, Blackbook just sang his praises and we thought The Standard world should know him, too.

(Robert Escalera and his friend Mikey)
Full Name: Robert Escalera
Exact Title: Poolside Restaurant Manager
Sun Sign: Capricorn
First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at the Standard?
I am a born and raised Miami boy which oftentimes answers peoples questions in itself like “Robert, where are you from?” “Miami” “Ooohhhhh, now it makes sense.” After traveling the globe for a while I was brought to New York by fashion but soon grew tired of living out of a suitcase and all the people who take themselves way too seriously. I began working as a promotional director for nightclubs such as Life, Spa, and Crobar. Though I’ve always loved the art of nightlife, the ability to make every person feel welcome as if all the production was just for them, and the challenge of keeping it interesting and cutting edge; I grew weary of the grueling hours and the fact that I was getting older but the crowds stayed the same age. The transition from nightclubs to restaurants came completely natural. I love hospitality and having the unique ability to change people’s experience. We literally get to create lifelong memories for our guests and that is not a responsibility I take lightly. With fourteen years of New York under my belt it was time for a change. Los Angeles is as if you took Miami and New York and put it in a blender so it was a perfect fit for me. It’s great to work for a company who at the core has the same integrity and vision as you, but the fact that I wear flip flops to work half the time doesn’t hurt either.
Uffie Plays Standard New York
Our muse of the moment, Uffie, has not yet played her Miami date (she is due to perform this Wednesday at The Standard Miami) but we’re proud to announce a second date for Uffie’s visit to the States. This Friday, March 11th, she’ll be DJ’ing at The Standard New York in Le Bain. Read our Q&A on the Parisian-residing, but Florida born recording artist.

Uffie will be joined by guest DJ Geordon from the Misshapes. As always, our Friday night party welcomes one and all, but just remember door closes at capacity, and like all New York doors, getting into the party is up to door discretion…so wear those fancy dancing shoes.
Meet Matt Goldman

We might be getting ahead of ourselves, but with these last few days of rain, we can’t help but long for summer when every day is 75 and sunny, and every weekend is packed with crazy antics at our pool parties. For that, we have Matt Goldman to thank. The multi-talented Matt – at once a graphic designer, artist and big boss at MFG Productions - has been a long time member of The Standard’s extended family, and who better to tell his story but the one and only. Matt took a moment out of his busy (understatement of the decade) schedule to fill us in.
Meet Andrei of DROOG

Andrei Osyka
DJ collective DROOG - Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe - have been long-time friends of The Standard, professionally taking our parties up a notch with their special something. Most recently we rang in the New Year together on The Rooftop, and when we saw the line snaked through the parking lot, we knew we had to get to the bottom of their phenomenon. We recently caught up with Andrei to discuss their secrets.
The Standard: What does DROOG as a collective try and bring to a party?
Andrei: There are three of us in the group and each has a slightly different but complimentary taste. We can play for days without getting too samey and boring. Also when organizing a party, it’s strength in numbers - three heads are better than one.
As for our collective vibe - we just play what we like and stay away from the cheese that seems to be so prevalent out there. That combination seems to work.
Meet Punches
We’d like to introduce you to Punches, a band whose music you can find on our Standard Music Widget for January 2011 — located on the right side of this blog. Go ahead, you can stop reading this a sec, look for their song, hit play, then continue reading our interview with them below.

(Punches)
The Standard: Would you say Punches is a DJ collective instead of a band?
PUNCHES in an experience, neither limited by the members who make the music nor the people who enjoy the sound.
How did you guys first meet eachother and how did you figure out that together, you 3 make magic?
The three of us are Hungarian Jews and we figured out that our grandfathers were freedom fighters by night and street buskers by day in Budapest. As the second world war heated up, our grandfathers lost touch, eventually losing contact completely. Alan’s grandfather passed away in the late 90s and when Darin and Greg’s passed away a few years ago, Alan honored his grandfather’s request of singing at the funeral. Once Darin and Greg heard his voice, they knew they had to work together.
Meet Arnold Chirino
Full Name: Arnold Chirino
Exact Title: Houseman
Sun Sign: Cancer

First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at The Standard?
I was born and raised in the most beautiful tropical country in Central America called El Salvador. At age 19, I wanted to live a better life and that’s when I decided to move to Los Angeles. My job at The Standard, Hollywood is a a runner and houseman in the housekeeping department.
What’s your favorite secret spot in Hollywood?
If I tell you my secret spot then it wouldn’t be a secret anymore.
The Sartorialist
Meet the Sartorialist (aka Scott Schumann), a man who documents real people on the streets with quick snapshots. He doesn’t necessarily search for designer labels, instead he opts for people with a classic sense of style… people with some sort of unique vision of how to put themselves together. Shooting people in New York, Milan, Paris and other chic cities, now he makes the world your “digital bench”.
Most of us working with the fashion business know the blog and read it daily… but few of us know anything about him. Intel made this pretty sweet intimate mini doc, and flipped the camera on him for once. Directed by Tyler Manson.
P.S. The woman on the street he shoots is Cloak maker Lindsay Thornburg… another example of a classic woman.
Meet David Uribe
