We Love Eres

(Eres 2011 Swimwear photo shoot at Sunset Beach)

What can we say? If you own an Eres then no explanation is needed. If you don’t, then you need to try one on and then it is all going to make sense. Eres is a French brand that is known for its resilient fabrication. The design is simple and elegant with cuts that flatter all body types. The Standard Miami's OHWOW boutique carries bikinis and one pieces in a variety of colors and sizes.

OHWOW: Scott Campbell’s Noblesse Oblige

Scott Campbell, Studio View, 2011

Los Angeles is a bit of a dichotomy to those who don’t really understand its inner makings.  For face value, it’s all about show business.  It’s celebrity and it’s fame and it’s fortune.  But there’s more to it than just that.  Over the past few years, its art scene has been slowly moving to its forefront and bringing with it the rising stars that have been begging for the spotlight.

This past weekend, our very own Al Moran launched his brand spankin’ new OHWOW! Gallery with the a solo exhibition of recent works by Scott Campbell entitled Noblesse Oblige which features the intricate and highly detailed works of this former tattoo artist.  Campbell highlights tattoo iconography in delicate reformations via the use of copper, 24K gold, currency, ostrich eggs and neon.

The 4,000 square foot, Rafael de Cardenas designed space, perfectly highlights Campbell’s work.  Blocks of currency sheets are cut to form 3-D images of skulls, demons and cobwebs.  Neon signs portray whimsical depictions of carnal debauchery.  Copper plates are etched with stories only the “naked” eye can see.  Cracked ostrich wield rock ‘n roll insignia worthy of Axl Rose’s forearm rather than the inside of an egg.  The exhibition highlights Campbell’s “nobility” in the form of his tattoo artist roots.  When you’re next in LA, try to ditch the paparazzi and pop through OHWOW!

We revealed the new STND X OHWOW Shop at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach during Art Basel, but now we have these swanky new pics from Floto Warner to really show off the space. “Friends with benefits takes on a whole new meaning” says W Mag of the the shop, and they’re right. The space was designed by Rafael de Cardenas, of Architecture at Large and features all kinds of quirky, pretty, exciting products from our community of artists, designers, and plain ol’ friends. Find Julia Chiang’s apples, jewelry by Anna Sheffield, books by KAWS, Andrew Kuo, and much more.

Friends With You

This year at Art Basel 2010, we’re all giddy about the new art that await us our hungry eyeballs. One of the collective to watch out for this week is a local based crew of artists who go under the moniker FriendsWithYou.

This week, FriendsWithYou is creating Rainbow City, a forty piece environmental installation addressing the potency of interaction, ritual, and play. Originally commissioned by Luminato Festival of the Arts in Toronto and inspired by Holi, a festival effectuated by Hindu followers throwing brightly colored water and powder at each other, FriendsWithYou presents a vibrant collection of mutable, air- filled sculptures.

The overall installation creates a surreal landscape of psychedelic scenery intended to simultaneously provoke a religious and childlike awareness.

Taking place in the heart of Miami’s Design District during Art Basel 2010, Rainbow City will attract an estimated 20,000 people over the course of five days. The experience will be one of the largest and most exciting site-specific installations offered at Art Basel.

Rainbow City by FriendsWithYou is presented by AOL, in association with NATIVE Shoes, PAPER Magazine, Dacra, OHWOW Gallery, & WeSC.
