For the most part, nothing really happens by accident. There’s a thought process behind whatever it is we surround ourselves with. Within that thought process comes a moment of realization which must give birth to execution. That moment, or series of, is called design. Is that actually true or did I just make all that up? It doesn’t matter. The point is that it’s that time when the International Contemporary Furniture Fair is upon us, and we’re beyond exuberant!
Beginning tomorrow, the ICFF comes to New York City, and with it brings designers, retailers, artists and design enthusiasts from all over the world sharing their innovation and love of design. This years roster of exhibitors is stellar, and the special features offered by the fair is one that any designer would envy.
It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I just worship Mickey Boardman, one of the original iconic geniuses behind Paper Magazine. And if it was a secret, now it’s not. Mr. Mickey doles out his musings daily on fashion, art, entertainment, porn and everything else simply Stan D’elicious.
But if you REALLY know Mickey, you know that he’s one of the kindest and most selfless souls to roam the face of the planet. One major part of his kindness is founded in his work for CITTA, an organization that is devoted to health, education and economic development in some of the world’s poorest regions.
This year, Mr. Mickey has organized his annual celebrity sidewalk sale at Screaming Mimi’s in benefit of this amazing organization. On Saturday, May 14th from 12pm to 6pm, come on down to Mimi’s which is located at 382 Lafayette street to peruse racks upon racks of new and vintage designer clothing all in the name of charity.
Proceeds from the sale will go to buy books and uniforms for the kids of Vivekanand Public School in Orissa, India.
You’ve been waiting all winter (rather impatiently I might add) for this moment, and it’s finally here. You thought we weren’t listening to your cries, your complaints, your calls for us to take some kind of action to cure you of your pasty white skin… but we were. You can finally stop your whining because the Rooftop at Le Bain is now open!
Yes, you heard correctly. We’ve officially reopened the roof, and if I must say so myself it’s better than ever. We have new cocktails, a new menu and a whole new line up of summer fun. Wait til you see what we’ve done with the place. You’re gonna love it.
So swing by tonight from 6pm - 11pm for a fun little party we’ve pulled together, and moving forward, we’ll be open for sunset cocktails all summer long, daily from 2pm until 11pm…except on Tuesdays when we close at 930pm for a Stan D’Amazing weekly party, but more on that to come.
As always, you can email me with any questions you may have, but if you’re already on the roof, I’m usually holding court on the third waterbed from the left!
Every now and then, a little piece of amazingness crosses our path, and this time around, it’s this short film called An Obsession by director Sandro Suppnig of Magellan Films.
In just under two minutes, you get everything one could ever hope for…Paris in the Spring, a moment that takes your breath away, sex, lust, a working fireplace (!!!) and clothes by Dior Homme, Zac Posen & Maison de Talons.
Featuring French actor, David Kammenos, and German Supermodel, Katrin Thormann, An Obsession has become my latest obsession.
My heart is racing as I write these words to you, because after a long and cold winter, and an equally rainy spring, hints of summer lovin’ are emerging. Today, this most influential of hints is this announcement that Sunset Beach, our little sister out on Shelter Island will be opening on May 20th! I AM SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!
There are so many exciting new developments for the summer. I can’t divulge all of them because I just have to leave a surprise for you for when you visit. But what I can tell you is that we have a new executive chef, Loic Larteau, who comes straight from the shores of St. Tropez. The petanque court is still there and the Veuve Clicquot Petanque Tournament will take place on July 12th. Check back in here later for more details.
Lastly, and only because I love you so much and because you’re my friends, we have set up the Sunset Stan D’eal. If you book between now and May 15th for a stay between May 22 - June 29th, you get 20% off your room! Just make sure to enter STAN in the promo code box. This does not include Friday or Saturday nights, unfortunately. Nobody’s perfect.
Make sure to read the terms when booking, and let me know if you need anything else or if you there any issues….but I know there won’t be.
Save me a glass of Rosé, and I’ll see you on the upper deck.
In honor of my throbbing headache, I present you with this useful information.
If you’re like me, you’re already sick of hearing of the Royal Wedding, and if you know me, there’s only one way I can deal with the deluge. That’s right. I made a drink in honor of it all. If you can’t beat them, toast them, I always say.
If you know me, you know that I find any excuse to enjoy a cocktail. All you have to say is, “Let’s grab a cocktail!” and I’m yours for the night. That’s why we had the most brilliant idea late last night.
Being that we’re celebrating the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature this week, we figured we should throw a daily happy hour in support of this amazing human rights organization.
Beginning today and continuing through the week during our normal sunset hours on Top of the Standard (4pm - 10pm on weekdays and from 2pm - 10pm), we will be hosting one hour of happiness from 7pm - 8pm where $1 from all cocktails poured will go to benefit PEN. In addition, we have come up with the above cocktail menu inspired by Salman Rushdie’s favorite classics (available in room at The Standard, New York!) from which we will donate $2 for every cocktail ordered.
Isn’t life Stan D’eliriously grand?!
New Jeans, New Pool by Jessica Craig-Martin for Stan D’Arde
Over the years I’ve learned that the only constant in life is change. A consistent evolution and awareness of self is key to who you are, and this is what keeps me going in the morning. Today, I would like to introduce you to the all new me.
My new logo is an iconic photograph entitled New Jeans, New Pool by famed artist and photographer Jessica Craig-Martin. When I first saw it, there was an immediate bond for all the obvious reasons.
The casual elegance of this unknown man, laying poolside fully clothed, martini in hand, is the allure. What is he doing there? Did he have time to kill before a chic dinner? Was he feeling melancholy and needing some time to himself? It was such a powerful image that I just had to have it!
Being that I’m not the selfish kind, I’m also giving you the opportunity to have a piece of Stan at home as well. The photograph is available for purchase via Works On Whatever, the art forum born from the genius minds of Yvonne Force-Villareal, Doreen Remen and Casey Fremont over at Art Production Fund. And for those of you who love your books, JCM’s monograph, PRIVILEGE, is also available online.
Here’s to more change for you and I to come.
It’s Friday, and it’s been a crazy week. I’m a little Stan D’elusional, so I wanted to let off a little steam (vicariously) by sharing this video of my new idol who calls himself, iTr3vor. This is what it’s all about, and no one is even paying attention. Love it!
