Isolated Lunge with Tricep Kickback
3 sets of 20 reps
Brad Plotkin
Start in a lunging position, knee is over the ankle, back leg extended. Whatever leg is forward, the opposite arm will perform the kickback. Grab a free weight anywhere between 5 and 20 lbs. Begin bending the elbow and raising the arm so bicep becomes parallel to the floor. Keeping elbow close to the body, kick the forearm back to straighten the arm, squeezing through the tricep muscle. Bend arm back in. That was 1 rep, continue on and challenge yourself to do 15-20 reps, then switch sides, lunging through opposite leg and kicking back with opposite arm.
Good for balance and tricep strengthening.

Morning!!! Here is a little activity that will start your day off right, even if you aren’t on the lovely dock at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach. Thanks Tara for sharing! xo

Yoga for Strength and Focus. . at the Standard Hotel / Spa in Miami.

Tara Stiles, Miami loves you!

You know how it is when you’re so hyped up about someone or something that you question how great they really could be? Well you better believe the hype when it comes to the lovely Tara Stiles. The Standard, Miami fell in love with Tara and it was clear why she has such a devout fan club. Tara’s classes were full of her Strala devotees and Miami locals - some fans even drove several hours to attend Tara’s dynamic classes.

In addition to the beautiful poolside yoga video Tara filmed a couple other awesome videos over the weekend - Take Care of Yourself First and How Yoga Works ! And did you see the the video’s from The Standard, Hollywood ? Lately we’ve been hooked to Tara Eats too… if we could only get her in the kitchen with Chef Mark (hint, hint). Stay tuned for dates of Tara Stiles next retreat at The Standard … coming soon!

Tara Stiles is Coming to The Standard Miami!

The Standard Miami is getting ready to get their Stralax on with Tara Stiles, recently named “Yoga Rebel” by The New York Times. Tara Stiles is hosting her first ever retreat at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach, August 12 - 15, so we thought we’d introduce you to the lady herself. Here’s a little Q&A to get you amped up for the retreat and book your rooms with us now (by the way, did you see her video in the rooms at The Standard, Hollywood?).

(Tara Stiles. Jane Fonda calls her “The New Face of Fitness”)

The Standard: Tell us where you are from and how you entered into this field?

Tara Stiles: I’m from a country town in Illinois.  I grew up in the woods, literally.  My earliest memories were yoga-ish, feeling that everything is connected and that we are all here to help each other.  I think being in nature reminds us that we aren’t on this planet to get stressed out and gather objects.  I taught myself how to meditate when I was really little and was introduced to yoga by a Hatha yoga teacher who was part of a ballet program I was involved with in my teens.  From my first actual led yoga class, yoga never stopped finding me.  I was part of Reiki circles and psychic adventures and my ballet teacher handed me Yogananda’s famous, Autobiography of a Yogi book, with a gentle smile that this path was something I should be doing.  I was scooped up by Ford models in my late teens, which completely took me by surprise, but I jumped on the opportunity and moved to NYC.  I was always doing and sharing yoga on photo shoots and gradually wiggled its way into becoming my career.  I was asked to blog for some magazines about yoga and health, and that went well and led to other opportunities in the field.  I continued teaching privately and started Strala small in my boyfriend’s apartment at the time.  Things progressed very naturally.  I don’t think you can plan a career in yoga, but fortunately it consumed my life one piece at a time and I’m so thankful that every minute of my day is spent in a way that is healing and expansive.
