We Gots Lots of 4th of July Plans

Get ready folks! We are entering another weekend of visual wonder with 4th of July weekend festivities. What better way for a group bond then getting together and looking up into the sky with a lot of communal “ooohs” and “aaaaahs”.

The Standard has a few shindigs going on at our various hotels in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Our locations are perfect with “money shot” views to behold all the magic.

Here’s a little rundown…

The Standard, New York

Once again, Le Bain will be hosting its memorable 4th of July party, one of the most coveted rooftops to enjoy the fireworks. The party starts at 3pm and runs through 2am with a load of dancing, cocktails, and fireworks simultaneously sparkling the sky.  Also, don’t forget your swimsuit - you might just want to dip in our hot tub during your firework viewing. Oh, and if you do forget, you know to get your pair in our poolside vending machines.

Another little note to all our friends — be mindful that we have one 1 stunning roof and New York City is very big, so we recommend coming early, getting your drink on, and picking a sexy corner early to watch the fireworks.

The Standard, Miami

On Sunday, there’s Lazy Sunday BBQ with $6 Picanha, Caipirinha, Beer and Drinks. The festivities begin from 2pm - 8pm.

Viva Sundays with Brazilian Bingo!

Here are some fun facts about Brazil: the Amazon is located there, everyone who visits must wear a thong (even your grandma), Portuguese can sometimes sound like the person is speaking Italian wrong, Brazilians love soccer (thanks, Bart Simpson, for that one), toilet water goes down clockwise when you flush (again, credit to Bart Simpson), and when you’re doing the Samba correctly your butt will jiggle (in a good way).  Why this new obsession with Brazil you may ask?  We’ve got two words for you, Brazilian Bingo at The Standard, Hollywood.  Yep, that’s right, Bingo with Brazilian flair.

(Hosts Leopold Nunan & Morena Santos)

Just imagine Carmen Miranda calling out the numbers, now throw in a few caipirinhas and a lovely samba dancer in the mix.  Getting the picture?  Yeah, it’s just like you’re imagining only sexier, crazier, and with more feathers.  Definitely worth a little look see, no?

Bingo: March of the Decades

I’m going to keep this short and sweet.  Just like me.  Actually, I’m pretty tall, so let’s keep this tall and sweet.  If you haven’t yet been to Bingo at The Standard Grill, you’re missing out BIG TIME!  Over the past few months this weekly Sunday night party has gotten everyone loopy with incredible prizes, dance offs, great food and themes which may or may not require a costume.  Of course costumes always increase your chances of winning…

This month, we are bringing you The March of the Decades where every Sunday is a different theme from a specific decade.  The lineup is as follows:

March 6th - 1970s:  Don your favorite bell bottoms, halter tops and afro wigs and get ready to disco through the party.

March 13th - 1980s: Try to find your favorite pair of neon Marithe & Francois Girbaud jeans, pin them at the bottom, finish off with dual toned scrunchy socks and you’re ready to face my wrath.  Spandex is also suggested.

March 20th - 1990s: Your inspiration here is Cher from Clueless.  As if!  If the Golden Girls can do it, so can you.

March 27th - 2000 + Beyond: This Space Age party will have Tom Cruise and Xenu wanting more.  Metallic silver, space dust (not that kind!!!!) and alien baby daddies will be rampant throughout.

Okay, kids.  That’s all I have.  If this isn’t enough for you to get your derrieres to the grill, I don’t know what is.

Standard Bingo: Welcome to The Jungle

If you’re cooler than your friends (and almost as cool as me), you know where the best Sunday night party is.  Yes.  I’m talking about Bingo at The Standard Grill.  For the past few months, The Standard, New York’s culinary mecca transforms itself into a debaucherous free-for-all bingo party hosted by the our favorite emcee, Michael Stauffer, and his trusty sidekick, James Thompson.

This past Sunday’s game, themed Welcome To The Jungle, proved no less tame than normal as guests donned face and body paint, sang along to Guns ‘n Roses and viciously fought each other for the grand prize, which coincidentally, was NOT a night out on the town with me.  Too bad for you.  Click through to check out Marisa McGrody’s photo essay of the evening.

First off, tell us a bit about your background, and what you do at the Standard?

I’m originally from a three-stoplight Civil War Battlefield town otherwise known as New Market, Virginia. After studying English and Sociology at a small liberal arts university in Virginia, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in writing and acting. Hello New York service industry. I’ve been with AB Properties for a couple years now; two summers at Sunset Beach and a little over a year at the The Standard New York. I’ve worked in Room Service, as a server in the Grill and now a bartender in the Grill and Biergarten. As of two weeks ago, I was honored to begin hosting the Sunday Night Not-Your-Standard-Bingo in the Grill. Hosting Bingo has hands down been the most fun I’ve had with any job in a while. Oh yea, I’m wicked good at rock paper scissors.

B-I-N-G-OOOOH YEAH

Every Sunday night, we used to sit at home and color code our closets, alphabetically by designer of course.  We really didn’t have anything else to do.  We didn’t like the clubs.  Gourmet dinners happen every other night anyway, and most retail operations close at 7pm.  We were at a loss for entertaining ourselves, so we created our own.

<cue the trombone or any other celebratory instrument>

Ladies & Gentlemen, we would like to welcome you to Sunday night BINGO at The Standard Grill!  Yes you heard correctly.  Every Sunday night from 10pm on, our very own Michael Stauffer and Chris Hessney host the city’s craziest Bingo party this side of Ronkonkoma!  Prizes vary each week from Tory Burch handbags to full box sets of your favorite TV show.  Dance contests break ties, and calling out a faux-bingo gets you punished….but you have to swing by to see exactly how.

The Standard Grill is located at 848 Washington Street, and you have to call ahead for reservations on 212-645-4100.
