For those who have not visited The Standard, New York, here’s a comprehensive walk through our corridors. Filmmaker (and now Standard guest blogger) Casey Neistat presents a healthy little competition between man and woman. Enjoy!
It’s time for another series of music showcases at The Standard, Hollywood, in Los Angeles. The next roundup proves to be as unique and diverse as the previous jam.
Here’s the crew slated to play this Wednesday, September 22
(Listen to Victoria Noll)
Victoria Noll cut her musical teeth in Mobile, Alabama before eventually finding herself in one of the epicenters of American musical innovation, Austin, TX. Following an interesting portion of her life spent studying art at The University of Texas and living in Taos Housing Cooperative, Victoria continued her journey west in July to find herself living a different but familiar life, attempting to focus more on developing her artistic outlets. Today, Ms. Noll can be seen and heard channeling whatever inspiration crosses her path and following whichever direction the wind takes her.
New York lost a big fish in the art scene when Jeffrey Deitch (Deitch Projects) moved to the west coast in order to be the new Director of MOCA, Los Angeles. His first project was the immense retrospective of Dennis Hopper’s career entitled Dennis Hopper Double Standard. Earlier in the summer, André Balazs and Jeffrey Deitch put heads together to co-host a private “friends & family” dinner to celebrate Jeffrey’s first presentation in Los Angeles. The guests? Art meets Hollywood.
(Daria Werboy, Kate Moss, and Lara Stone for W Magazine)
Not a bad morning view to behold, eh? Kate, Daria, and Lara all crashed at The Standard, Miami with Bruce Weber and stylist Alex White to shoot for W Magazine. The result is an awesome narrative photographed at our Miami Beach location called “Summer Camp”. The tagline reads “school’s out and the livin’ is easy”. Give yourself 5 seconds to fall back and flip through the pretty photos of Summer Camp. The photo spread was published in July 2008, but pretty pics are timeless, right?
If you’re feelin’ the laid back vibe, take a dip into the sharply produced videos which dive deeper into the rabbit hole introducing all the designers who showed up — Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), Jason Wu, Georgina Chapman (Marchesa), Alexander Wang, and soooo many more… too many names to mention, so please take a peek at the sweet video art by Theo Stanley set to gorgeous Cuban music.
It’s time again for another precious evening of fine acoustic sets presented at The Standard, Hollywood. This Wednesday, September 8th, we’ve lined up a fresh new selection of music to wrap your hearts and minds around.
Here’s a brief stroll through our Wednesday acts…
Imagine the vibe of Tom Petty, Elvis Costello and Gram Parson wrapped up into one musician with some new modern flavor. Bryce has been fermenting as an artist near the sacred Joshua Tree at a cool spot called Pappy & Harriet’s. He’s been jamming with contemporaries Band of Horses, Jayhawk’s Mark Olson, Victoria Williams, and Tim Easton. Today, his creative outlets include The War Children and The GT 350’s but we’re happy to boast we got Bryce for one night to cook up some tunes in an intimate setting.
Will Self is an English novelist with a new book on the horizon called Walking to Hollywood. The novel is part memoir, part fiction — also called a hyrbrid (aren’t all novels embellished realities anyway?). The editors at Nowness.com interviewed Will at one of our sister hotels, Chateau Marmont (also a location in the novel).
