Return of the Drawing Salon

Back in June The Standard, Hollywood hosted a Drawing Salon with artist Ryan McGinness.  We had such a blast that we decided to make it a regular thing.  Next  Thursday, August 25th, will mark the return of the Drawing Salon!  We’re partnering with New Image Art Gallery for the event and have lined up some breathtaking models to get those creative juices flowing. This month’s models will be outfitted in The Standard’s bathing suit collaboration with Quiksilver and will feature fantastic accessories by Karen Walker

We’ll provide some paper and pencils but you’re welcome to bring your own supplies if you want to get fancy (just no oils or acrylics, please).

The figure drawing is free and open to the public so there’s no excuse not to brush off your palette, grab a cocktail, and let your inner artist unfurl!

Drawings by Van Neistat

Here at The Standard, Hollywood we love a good artist (maybe even more so when they’re an East Coast transplant making their way in the City of Angels). Enter Van Neistat, one-part of the legendary NY art duo, The Neistat Brothers. On Saturday night we spotted him showing support for Ryan McGinness at our poolside Drawing Salon and felt compelled to give him a special shout-out after he dedicated this illustration to us and handed it over as he left the building at the end of the night. Grazie Mille Van, we love you longtime buddy!!

Drawing Salon with Ryan

As you know, artist Ryan McGinness is in the midst of a whirlwind visit to Los Angeles.  Despite his crazy schedule of gallery openings, parties, meetings, and art installs, he managed to find the time to fit in a little drawing. We’re happy to report that he spent last night sketching models in The Box at The Standard, Hollywood, a practice he plans to continue tonight and tomorrow from 9pm until midnight.   Definitely stop by and watch some of Ryan’s Drawing Sessions.  His creative process is mesmerizing and the ladies aren’t too hard on the eyes either.
