American Singer/songwriter Adam Green is known for his stint with the Moldy Peaches, but in the new millennium he also did the solo thing. His music is a sophisticated indie-folk mix, showcasing an appealing peculiarity similar to the likes of Leonard Cohen. He’s known as the “Jewish James Dean.” The singer found himself with a bit more mainstream attention thanks to his duet with fellow-Moldy Peach Kimya Dawson, “Anyone Else But You,” featured on the hit film Juno.
Adam will be performing this Wednesday, July 27th, at Le Bain, at The Standard, New York for our Havainas Summer Wednesdays Series. Music will be curated by Paul Sevigny, Alexandra Richards and Jaime Biden.
Party starts at 9pm. Stay tuned for upcoming performance this summer…
We hope all you readers have rested properly this weekend and are ready for another weekly gathering for Desert Nights this Wednesday. Held inside the Cactus Lounge inside The Standard Hollywood, we’re proud to announce the new line-up this week…
Jake Troth has been passionate about music since he first found his mother’s guitar under her bed at nine years old. Throughout high school Jake played in short-lived bands, experimenting with different types of rock music but eventually finding a passion for the simple folk singer-songwriter style. After graduating Jake decided to take a year off before heading to college, so he headed out west to San Francisco.
While living in an artist-run gallery space he decided that music was what made him truly happy and he wanted to make it his career. After being accepted and given a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, Jake developed his unique and honest sound while studying fashion and fashion accessories. His sound is simply contagious. Take a listen for yourself.

From his Ohio roots through stretches in Paris and Prague, Tim Easton grew his credentials with stints in NYC and LA, leading to his latest encampment in the high desert country outside of Joshua Tree, California. His continuous adventures are evident in the songs on his latest album, Beat The Band, an independent release from Easton’s own label, Campfire Propaganda.

What is Desert Nights?
Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood. Every Wednesday, we curate 3 musical acts on the rise to perform a special acoustic set in our hotel lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. Also, expect 2 clever cover songs delivered by each performer. The sets begins at 7:30 pm in the Cactus Lounge (thus the title of the evening, Desert Nights).
Poet/writer/performance artist/director/all-around-awesome-person Miranda July has been making the rounds promoting her upcoming film, The Future. The press junket for the film was recently held at The Standard, Hollywood and in-between interviews, in classic Miranda style, she managed to make her own little bit of fun.
In her blog, www.mirandajuly.com, she describes her thoughts looking onto the pool deck from the balcony of the Suite:
I stared at this view all day, from the balcony, in between interviews. Thoughts had:
1. Can I yell “What are you feeling and thinking?” to the lounging people or is that going to ruin their time.
2. WIth a running start could I jump from the balcony into the pool? Maybe even into the pink thing?
3. That astro-turf is blue in a way that just won’t quit and I’m going to have to make something with it before I leave here.
Nothing came of 1 or 2 but with help of Megahn Burns and James Teel from Roadside Attractions, 3 was totally achieved.
Ever the artist, she also found the time to create a very special piece of original art on a Standard napkin which is actually up for grabs on the Opening Ceremony website here!
Miranda’s film, The Future, opens in select theaters on July 29th. We’re psyched to see it. Watch the trailer - you’ll agree.
This Monday, Giant Step invites you to DJ Spinna’s debut at Le Bain. If you haven’t heard DJ Spinna, he’s one of New York’s top DJ’s. One of our personal favorites is his remix of the classic Shirley Bass tune, “Spinning Wheel” a few years back. Spinna’s forte is seamlessly moving between soul, house, afrobeat, funk, and hip hop.
Come check out the master himself this Monday, July 25th, 2011, at LeBain in The Standard New York. You’ll be glad you did.
We can’t get enough of the Le Bain bashes. Every weekend, our line-ups present new and improved mayhem, as you can see from these photos below shot at our Le Bain X Mad Decent party by photographer Keetja Allard (on Friday July 8, 2011).
Convinced yet? This weekend, we have a big summer Week-End lined up at Le Bain with JDH & Dave P from “‘Fixed” (Friday), Blu Jemz, Eli Escobar and Lloydski of Night People (Saturday), Darshan Jesrani of Metro Area and Alex from Tokyo (Sunday).
We’ll see you on the 18th floor!

Who better than Laure Heriard Dubreuil (founder of The Webster), to give us a glimpse of Miami Beach’s fabulous Swim Week 2011? We love her highlights of Swim, including driving the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force car, the Coveter Shoot at her apartment, her fashion police arrest of Lisa Marie Fernandez, and of course, her favorite pics of Lazy Sunday Swim at The Standard Miami.

On Saturday, Swim Vixen Swim by RANA*ROJO was a huge success and we loved the designs of RANA*ROJO’s resort line for 2012. The Standard Miami’s Lido Lounge was the perfect location for this sexy Swim Show. Born in Katmandu, Nepal, lead designer Ash Rana and Cuban born, fine artist Damian Rojo merged their talents and formed RANA*ROJO in 2008. For this collection, RANA*ROJO created their prints by hand drawing and digitally re-contextualizing their findings ranging from medieval textiles to 60’s wallpaper design. Swim Vixen Swimwas inspired by 50’s undergarments, orientalism and 60’s film femme fatales. Each distinctive piece in the collection is hand dyed and screen-printed. Check out the pictures here.

On Saturday night was also Native Swim with DJ Mia Moretti and DJ Tamara Sky. It was so much fun! We even heard one of the DJ’s jumped onto a paddle board with a pair of Natives on! The party was dope as usual with Xavier Burt of Native and Sebastian Puga as hosts of the party. The kicks are perfect for the Miami weather and we loved the Native vibe. Check out the party pics!

This year’s Swim Week Lazy Sunday Party was just the perfect day in paradise. A great collaboration came together with The Standard Miami, The Webster, Gilt City Miami, Ocean Drive Magazine, Havaianas and sponsors Leblon Cachaca and Societe Perrier. Everyone loved making their own Havaianas and taking funny photo booth pictures. The models from The Webster sported all the latest looks as they mingled throughout the crowd. Add to that all the weekly Lazy Sunday goodies including Brazilian BBQ, Ping-Pong, Tetherball, and Paddle boarding. Check out the rest of the pictures here! (Congrats to our VIP gift bag winners with our personal favorite photo booth pics, Corrie y Rodrig!)

(Entourage’s Emmanuelle Chriqui at Top of The Standard)
Last night was the official premiere of Friends with Benefits which premiered at The famous Ziegfield Theater Monday in New York. After the screening, all the folks headed on over to our spot at the Top of The Standard hotel. New York singles got to huddle together and mock the ridiculous mating rituals in this cosmopolitan town. The movie served a bit as therapy for the city’s unconventional flings that spawned the movie. At least we had an awesome DJ to ring in the casual sex talk! Read more at WWD.
