When you think of Stan D’Arde, I know you’re think of Glamour, Chicness, Paparazzi, Fame and Fortune. Or maybe you just think of me as a faceless martini-soaked genius with REALLY great shoes. Regardless, I would be nothing today without the inspired photographic artistry of a man by the name of Rankin. Let me tell you why…
For the past 23 years, Rankin has explored his dynamic and intimate portraiture by shooting rock stars, politicians, supermodels and every day people and has exhibited his work across the globe in every capital of style known to man. And yes, he is shooting my portrait, bien sur. I personally like to think of it as the peak of his career, but I’m sure he just regards it a chore, but I digress…
This week, starting June 1st, Rankin is coming at you twofold. Our friends over at Milk Gallery are bringing you Rankin Open, a retrospective of over 20 years of work. In conjunction with the exhibit, they are producing Rankin Live! which is where you come in. Part performance art, part live exhibition and part magazine come to life, Rankin will be shooting live subjects from June 1st - 5th, while the public gets to peer in.
To get your own personal portrait, all you have to do is email Rankin a brief explanation of your intention along with a photo, and the most original applicants will be selected and invited to Milk Gallery for their own personal photo shoot. The portraits will cost you $100 and all proceeds will go to benefit OxFam.
Milk Gallery is located at 450 West 15th Street. (212) 645-2797.
In a rare one on one interview, our very own Valentine Uhovski got to spend a little time with the man known as Rassi to ask the questions that we were all dying to have answered.
Mazdack Rassi, the founder and creative director of Milk Studios is one of the busiest men in Gotham right now. After founding M.A.C & Milk Fashion Week four seasons ago, the event grew into even better and greater things with this season’s partnership with The Standard, expansion of MilkMade.com, best designer line-up so far, and plenty of dinners and concerts to keep everyone in Meatpacking District and beyond exceptionally happy.
