Desert Nights- Aug 24
This Wednesday, on August 24th is another loyal installment of our weekly party, Desert Nights, held in the Cactus Lounge at The Standard Hollywood. The evening is a gathering of 3 musicians who opt to unplug and provide a special acoustic set for our lucky hotel guests and friends. Here’s the lineup this week.

(Half the Brother-Sister Duo of Lincoln and Cory Madley. )
Cory & Lincoln Madley are a brother-sister duo from the Black Hills of South Dakota. They started playing music together in the family band and, after moving to Venice Beach together, threw a weekend folk party in their garage where their friend could sit in. For a while, Lincoln was performing solo as Sunny Von Bülow and Cory was running a jewelry shop. Now, Lincoln writes their new songs on his guitar with Cory singing the thirds that give them their country sound. Their influences are owls, classic rock, and dancing.
In the Grace of The Rapture
Tonight, we join forces with Justine D. to celebrate a New York miracle: the return of The Rapture. Released September 6th on DFA Records, their new album sounds as magic and uplifting and beautiful as their first single “How Deep is your Love”. Enjoy the exclusive Standard Q&A and see you later tonight at the DFA & Throne of Blood Dance Party!

The Standard: While recording your album in Paris, you said it was going to be “mystical, magical”. Did it happen?
The Rapture: Yes. For sure! This mystery cannot be conveyed with words. It can only be felt. If you are in a deep slumber it will wake you. If you cannot be roused out of your deep sleep than no mystery other than that of your own lethargy will you ever experience.
Philippe Zdar of Cassius fame produced the new LP. He is probably one of the coolest guys on earth and a kind of magician himself. Was it fun working with him?
Yes, it was incredibly fun to work with Philippe. We created a new style together. We were born ready to create this new style. It is inimitable, so don’t even try. You will hurt yourself if you try. In short, Philippe is our brother. If you fuck with him you will experience anguish and pain beyond your conception.
Song of the Week: Video Games

We bring you a new song of the week from our music aficionado staffer, otherwise known as “The Starman”. The tune is called “Video Games” by Lana Del Rey.
“Lana Del Rey. You might not have heard of this name yet but save it in your memory somewhere between Nancy Sinatra and Florence and the Machine. New York singer-songwriter Lizzy Grant known as Lana will be flooding the radio stations with her upcoming debut single ‘Video Games’. A sultry, sensual, Old Hollywood-esque song that won’t leave your mind” says Starman.
Video Games is set to be released on October 10, 2011.
The Rapture Returns!
This Friday, Le Bain is joining forces with Justine D, Throne of Blood and DFA Records to celebrate the release of the new album by The Rapture. In The Grace of Your Love will be released September 6th, but you probably already heard the fantastic first single “How Deep is Your Love”. You can download the remix by Populette here:
The party at Le Bain will feature DJ sets by fellow artists Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem), Tim Sweeney and Populette. Come and celebrate the return of one of NYC’s most beloved bands!

Some Love from the Big Boys
Ok. So we realize this song was released online on August 11th, but it’s still on heavy rotation here at The Standard office…. note: 5 and 1 /2 million hits on YouTube already? Damn! Watch The Throne is out now and here’s the first single “Otis”. Download the track on iTunes.
Our favorite part? Hova’s “Live from The Mercer” shout-out referring to our sister hotel, at 1:28. We love you too, Jay!

Hannah Cohen’s First Single is Out

Ladies and gentlemen, take a look at this angel of a singer names Hannah Cohen. Her voice is heartbreaking, curious, and emotional. ”My music is for unicorns” she tells Nowness when asked what her musical genre was. “It is in the sad unicorn genre.”
Vogue photographer Matthu Placek created this arresting musical vignette for her first single, “Child Bride.” To read more on the New York artist blossom, go to Nowness.
Desert Nights- Aug 17
Welcome to another week, fellow readers. We’d like to introduce you to another evening of our freshly served acoustic tunes served up by The Standard Hollywood this Wednesday evening. Here’s the intelligence report…

(Listen to Anny Celsy here)
Anny Celsi (pronounced “Chelsea”) began her musical upbringing in the shadow of the Portland freeways, infusing its rain-soaked, caffeine-rock culture with the girl-pop sounds of Phil Spector, Dusty Springfield and Ellie Greenwich. She spent her teenage years as a writer and vaudeville performer with the acclaimed avante-garde Storefront Theatre, after which, several inches short of the Las Vegas showgirl minimum, she turned her attention to songwriting. She was a founding member of the L.A. boy/girl pop-rock band The Tearjerkers. Anny’s next band, Annyland, released an independent CD, She Walks In. Their video of the title song became a staple with indie video programmers.
