As surf culture becomes more popular, the notion of what it means to be a surfer expands. The New York Surf Film Festival’s aim is to build upon and shape the idea of what a surf movie is, while fostering the growth of this global community in NYC.
The 2011 International Screening Panel includes:

Boardshorts by Quiksilver + Much Much More!

Okay, okay, we realize that Stan D’Arde - in typical Stan behavior - might have spilled the beans a bit, but here you have the official announcement: the third edition of The Standard boardshorts made by Quiksilver are here! Like last time, they are inspired by each of the four hotels in New York, Downtown LA, Hollywood and Miami. Get your own pair (or one signed by a star surfer - just keep reading…) at our poolside vending machines or at www.ShopTheStandard.com.
Of course, that’s not all. In the past two years we gave you a killer parties to celebrate the release in both LA and then Miami, but this year we’re bringing it to New York and offering a home to Quiksilver Pro, the largest surf competition to ever take place in New York where the winner gets $1 million - the largest prize given at any surf competition ever! Plus there is a slew of amazing music performances like Flaming Lips, Girl Talk, and Interpol (more info here).
September 2nd marks the kick off party, at where else? Le Bain. Before the festivities begin you can catch Tony Hawk in our backyard at Pier 54 - details in the video below.
We’re not done - leading up to Quik Pro you can expect lots more on Standard Culture, including exclusive interviews with star surfers, playlists that will make you want to cover your nose in zink and ride a wave immediately, and of course a chance to get amazing prizes yourself, like VIP surfing lessons, signed boardshorts, and more. Just stay tuned or follow @standarde and @standardny for constant updates.
