Our hearts broke when we saw this gorgeous new video for artist Bethany Cosentino, a.k.a. Best Coast directed by Drew Barrymore. The theme is a throwback 50’s vibe, with a wink to West Side Story which is really an epic wink to Romeo & Juliet — the feuding families with 2 star crossed lovers stuck in the middle. The video also brings to mind the infamous car race scene from Grease with its locations.

In this particular story, actresses Miranda Cosgrove and Chloe Moretz play the 2 chicks in the gang, and both are smokin’ hot. We especially love how their stylish hair maintains after a gang fight. See for yourself.
It’s not every day that someone creates art to specifically debut at The Standard, Downtown LA, but this past Tuesday we were lucky enough to premiere new animated works from the creative geniuses behind Brainbow, Harry McGowan and Jimmy Thompson. These two brainiacs (get it!?) founded the company in 2008 based on their combined knowledge of advertising, fine art and music and now count clients like HBO, Penguin Books and Broken Bells among their portfolio.
If you weren’t able to join us, we now bestow unto you The Schwartzenegger Trilogy for your viewing pleasure.
A few weeks ago (as some of you might remember) LA-based artist Skullphone took over the 6th Street Mural at The Standard, Downtown LA and the box at The Standard, Hollywood. Both pieces look great and everything was hunky dory until we took a peek at surveillance footage from the parking garage in Hollywood.
GASP! Is that? No it can’t be. But who else…? After a lot of playful finger pointing and one scheming smile in particular, we all hugged and made up. After all, it makes the parking garage look a little cooler, no?
With all the hard feelings long behind us, The Standard Hollywood and LA Record invite you to celebrate Skullphone’s (ahem, sanctioned) installations with us at The Standard, Hollywood this Thursday at 8 PM. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll see you there!
