When I used to sneak into my father’s room to go through his stash of Playboy Magazines, it was strictly to read the fascinating articles laid out chicly between the covers of the glossy mag. Pages upon pages of information relating to art, music, entertainment, industry and design kept me busy for hours…until Mama D’arde caught me and sent back to my villa to “think about my actions”. She just didn’t understand.
Now, in a stroke of genius born from the mind of Playboy’s Chief Content Officer, Jimmy Jellinek, Playboy has made every single issue of the magazine ever published available on iPlayboy. That’s over 160,000 pages of academia and erotica on the web and optimized for use on your iPad. (If you don’t have an iPad, you can still browse the photos only but not the articles.)
Last night, The Standard, New York hosted the first in a series of panel discussions which you will begin to see more frequently within our hallowed halls. The CFDA pulled together retailing’s top masters for a discussion on the future of the industry. Panelists included my personal favorite Roopal Patel of Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey, Alexis Maybank, Founder of Gilt Groupe, Jan-Hendrik Schlottman, CEO of Derek Lam and Paul Birardi of Odin.

Waris & Playboy? Not a likely combo, you’d think, right? Well, we enjoyed the mix. House of Waris (headed by Waris Ahluwalia) and Playboy magazine ended up hosting a very hip literary salon located underneath the High Line a few weeks ago. Jason Silva of Current TV referred to it as “Intellect plus revelry!” as he told the Huffington Post. It was such a nicely attended party, in fact, that it got some nice ink on Style.com, Guest of a Guest, and Paper, and Refinery29.

The event was a celebration of the latest translation of Flaubert’s Madame Bovery, which was translated by Lydia Davis in September’s issue of Playboy magazine. Actress Paz de la Huerta sat down to read some excerpts for the audience. Hosts included Derek Blasberg, Byrdie Bell, Brooke Geahan, Jay McInerney, Hari Kunzru, Jamie Johnson, Tarajia Morrell, Helen Lee Schifter, and Playboy’s executive literary editor Amy Grace Lloyd. DJ’s Nate Lowman and Rachel Chandler held it down with the tunes.
